So for many of you, this movie/documentary is an old thing, however, for me, last night this was my first viewing of For the Bible Tells Me So by Director Daniel Karslake. It is an excellent exploration of how the religious sector has been teaching lies about homosexuallity for so long, that all believe it to be truth. By exploring the historical aspects as to why the bible was written the way it was, the true meaning of the so-called anti-gay passages can be turned upside down.
This documentary dives into several different families who were raised on the bible and at one point had to face the fact that one of their children were gay. One woman was so blinded by her teachings, that unfortunately she said some wicked things to her daughter who had come out and in turn, her daughter eventually committed suicide. It was through her death, that she finally realized she must educate herself on her beliefs and find out the truth. To her dismay, she realized that what her preachers had been instilling in her all of these years was blatantly wrong and the death of her daughter was due to her ignorance.
I think the most stunning thing is the in your face hate that comes from the Jerry Faldwell types and the divisions they create by using the ignorant and uneducated. They choose selective passages to follow and insist that if you are not the sheep christian then hell is upon you and you must be saved.
So painful.
Religious hate is a serious offense and unfortunately, it spreads far and wide. There is absolutely nothing accepting about religion unless you accept that you must follow blindly. I will give the New Hampshire Episcopals some credit though. Instead of taking the bible for it's literal meaning, they have accepted that God would rather someone be gay than for God's congregation to shun him. Now, I use the word God here in the context of this is what they believe. I do not believe in God, but I do believe that if I did, this would be the way a loving God would expect his people to be.
Either way, if you haven't seen this documentary and religious hatred bothers you, this is a great movie to help you brush up on those passages the religious fanatics bark at you and responses to their sheepish spewings. Unfortunately, they do not see themselves as ignorant and we will never be able to get them to see how ignorant they truly are. But we can at least defend ourselves within ourselves knowing that they truly do not have an understanding of their book and many religious types openely admit that many Christians are clueless as to what they actually believe.

Ok... so he looks a wee bit squirrely... but damnit! he knows the constitution. And finally someone who actually has something to say that doesn't sound like complete and utter crap. it was interesting watching the debates and the responses he acheives from the other candidates.
They all appear to be ignoring him, or only partially listening for a place where they can jump in and make some kind of off topic jab... and then all of the sudden they are ripped from their self-absored-coma to realize that "Holy Crap! This man is actually telling these stupid voters the truth! Should I interject?... "Stoopid Comment Outloud"". It's too bad the elections are rigged and that good candidates don't get nearly the time, news coverage or money, to speak their messages like those of the front-runners. Example: RP won 2nd in Nevada. Granted it was a far second... but did they say anything about it... not really. Did Guilliana deserve half of the press he received... absolutely not.
During the You-Tube or Facebook debate (I can't remember which one because they are both slated to cover really only 4 players, 2 Repubs/2 Dems), when the debate was over, RP hung out by himself while all of the other ass's and elephants did their meet-and-greet. Finally, when Obama was done, they shook hands and had a chat. This body language tells us a lot about RP and the other candidates. He doesn't fit in with them because he isn't one of them. He hasn't groomed himself to be the playboy Mormon or the Ex-Evangelist gone Semi-Constitution. When RP loses the Repub nomination and if he doesn't switch parties, then Obama seems to be a good choice. A blog for later.
I think the best part of RP is that even though he has stated that he is a Christian, he believes in the Constitution which itself rights the separation of church and state. Even though he has his own religious beliefs, you wouldn't know it. We all know where Huckabee stands... I must mention that we received a very good chuckle the other night when during one of his speeches, we found ourselves enveloped in what we thought was CNN but was actually an Evangelical tent set up in our bedroom like a personal hell... but that in itself is an entirely different rant to have later.
"Thank the Holy Lord" that Romney finally stepped out of the race. What would we do? Forced prayer vigils and email blasts from the US Gov telling us to pray or die. Our public schools would be places like our private schools are now... where our children come home at the age of 3 saying "God is Great... God is Good... Let us Thank him for our Food." And if that behavior makes it's way to the public school system, you can bet your bippy that within 10 years, we are all in for it.
I have absolutely no problems with the personal choice of following a religion. I think that even as a non-god believer, I am very spiritual and am on the right "path" in life. But I also gave up fairy tales and getting scared of ghost stories a long time ago. It is very important to me that my President does not perpetuate the fairy tales and ghost stories. If I wanted that... I would time-travel to Rome and become a Nun in the RCC. ;0)
Be American... Be Pro-Constitution... Vote Ron Paul!
