This really grates me to the core. To have Christians throw morality into the mix.

Like we should use the 10 Commandments for our moral code, when two of the commandments reference to slavery.

4) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

10)You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.

Now I ask, where in this day do we find slavery moral and just?

More on Morality

Here is a good story for some moral code.

Genesis

Chapter 19

30: And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31: And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
32: Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
33: And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
34: And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.
35: And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
36: Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

Is there anything on the subject of the legalities of having sex with your father? There is no mention in the bible of this being morally wrong. In fact there is more.

the origin of Ammon and his brother, Moab, is ascribed to Lot, the nephew of Abraham. This revolting narrative has usually been considered to give literal fact, but of late years it has been interpreted, as recording a gross popular irony by which the Israelites expressed their loathing of the corrupt morals of the Moabites and Ammonites. It may be doubted, however, that such an irony would be directed against Lot himself.

The Moabites

References to the religion of Moab are scanty. Most of the Moabites were polytheists like the other early Semites; and they induced the Israelites to join in their sacrifices. Their chief god was Chemosh.

The Ammonites

Of their gods the name of only the chief deity, Milcom. In Jermiah. 49:1, 49:3, "Malcam" is to be translated by "Milcom" (the god) and not as in the Authorized Version, "their king." In the Bible Milcom is described as having been worshipped with human sacrifice.

So, god Completely wipes out a City, Sodom and Gomorrah because of their, iniquities.

Genesis 19

15: And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16: And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17: And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

24: Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25: And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

So, god completely flattens a city, because of their iniquities, and morality, and then allows Lot's daughters to get Lot drunk, and fuck him in order to have off spring which turn out to be 2 separate races, which worship other gods, and nothing is mentioned.

I guess god forgot that he was a jealous god.

This is one area where the religious of any type hold themselves up as being inherently better in a moral sense than non-believers. While talking on this subject with two girls I was dating (for reference these girls were a lesbian couple and fairly frequent drug users who still hold on to their Catholic faith even as they would be cast out by this faith if "exposed") they had no conception that a godless universe could be a moral one, that people could do good of their own accord and free will without fear of supernatural punishment. I couldn't believe these seemingly sweet girls could consider wronging or hurting people if they were freed from judgement from above. It was chilling.

I've thought over the terms morality and ethics over the past years and now I do believe morality can exist apart from god. What I used to say when questioned "What are your morals?", usually from the friend or sister of a prospective girlfriend, I'd answer "I have no morals, only ethics." Meaning I didn't accept laws passed down from on high but I do value human goodness. I don't think I ever won anyone over with this and only just recieved a blank look or sneer.
